CHILDREN OF THE MOON
Book Five
PROLOGUE
Bree stood at the window, her stomach performing somersaults as she peeked outside at the pack members gathered outside the Den for her and Nate's wedding. The rows and rows of folding chairs were laid out facing away from the house with a long aisle in the middle. There were fresh flowers in every shade of the rainbow arranged in jars at the end of each row and her uncle Jay had built a beautiful wedding arch which Anjelica had decorated with more fresh flowers and yards and yards of wedding tulle.
It had only been two weeks since Nathaniel had asked her to marry him and as soon as she heard the good news, her aunt Roisin had gone overboard in the preparations. With Imogen and India’s help, she had created an amazing wedding for them. They had actually gotten their license a few days ago and in the eyes of the law were already man and wife, but to Bree, this day would always be their wedding day. The entire pack, her extended family, would be there to celebrate with them and there was nothing more Bree could have asked for.
The huge, elaborately decorated, multi-tier cake that Imogen baked stood tall on the breakfast table, ready to be taken outside for the reception after the ceremony and the pack’s catering company had worked tirelessly for days to put on a spread fit for a king. Shifter weddings were rare but the idea had grown on her and the pack liked nothing more than a celebration, she couldn’t wait to become Mrs. Wade.
Her soft white empire gown looked ethereal and was the perfect foil for her dark hair. The fabric swished around her ankles as she walked and when she looked in the mirror she felt as if she had been transported to Jane Austin’s nineteenth-century England. Her amber eyes were huge and the dark frame of her lashes made them stand out like two beacons. India had created a masterpiece for her in such a limited time and Bree thought that her friend had missed her calling as she fingered the gorgeous fabric between her fingers.
Her sister came up beside her and put her arm around her waist and hugged her tightly. Bree leaned in, loving the comfort of her twin sister’s touch. Their bond was stronger than ever and she couldn’t imagine anyone she would want beside her more on this momentous day.
Hope looked beautiful in her pale pink organza gown and her normal funky colored hair was now a slightly lighter shade of brown than Bree’s, which had the pack members groaning to tell them apart once again.
Bree’s hair had been slightly curled for the occasion and she wore a crown of fresh, fragrant roses woven with baby’s breath that matched her sister’s headdress with the addition of a small veil.
“You look stunning, Bree, are you nervous?” Hope asked as she straightened her sister’s headdress and handed her the matching bouquet.
“No, I’m not nervous, I want to be married to Nathaniel more than anything in the world, but I am terribly excited though, I have butterflies in my stomach and my hands are shaking.” she smiled and peeked outside again.
Hope was delighted for her sister and sad at the same time that Rafe hadn’t been the one for her after all. She wanted what her sister had so badly and she hoped for the same for Rafe, but she had a feeling that maybe that wasn’t what the fates saw in her future after all.
Roisin popped her head in the door and had little Kali by the hand. The little girl was dressed in the same pale pink as Hope and looked adorable as her flower girl.
“It’s almost time, the whole pack is out there and Nathaniel is waiting for you, love,” Roisin said with a smile as she kissed her niece on the cheek.
Hope ushered Kali toward the front door with her little basket of pink and white rose petals and they waited patiently on their musical cue. The door opened and Seann was there, dressed in a navy-blue suit and ready to walk his sister down the aisle.
The sound of John Legend floated on the still air and Bree took a deep breath as she took his arm and they followed her maid of honor and flower girl outside and down the porch steps. The entire pack was there, all turned in their seats for a first look at the bride, but Bree’s eyes were drawn only to Nathaniel standing under the flowered arch as he turned to face her. His clear gray eyes met hers and her heart skipped a beat.
Seann Squeezed her hand and she blinked back tears of joy as she took her first step towards her future and the wolf of her dreams.
